After walking around Athens, melting in the sun, take a trip down to Sounion for a dip in the Mediterranean sea. Located about 45 minutes South of Athens, Sounion is home to the Temple of Poseidon. The Temple was built on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean sea to show respect to the Greek God, Poseidon, God of the Sea and Water. Find out what time the sun sets and make the trip by either signing up for a ride through Viator.com or renting a car for a day. It costs 8€ to enter the Temple.
All of the beaches are open to the public, so take a swim in the clear water and watch the sail boats float by in the distance.
There’s not much more to it. You don’t need to use an entire day, but I highly suggest making the sunset. Totally worth it!
Pin it for later!
I visited this idyllic location a few years ago, it remains a high point of my trip around Athens & Santorini 🤗
