Venice, Italy: Bringing Awareness to Global Warming

I had first heard about these hands earlier this year and have been very excited to see them in person. The sculpture, named “Support” by artist Lorenzo Quinn, is seen holding up the 14th century walls of the Ca’Sagredo Hotel.  It brings to light today’s problem with climate control as water levels begin to rise.  Scientists believe if something doest change, this water surrounded city could be mostly submerged by 2100. The hands represent the power humans have to either destroy or hold up the world we have created.The hands are located on the Grand Canal by the Rialto waterbus stop. If you don’t want to walk ALL the way around, there is a quick gondola ferry that takes you across the canal for 2€ one way.  Walking under the hands is a cool experience too (and Free). Each hand weighs around 5,000lbs and is modeled after molds of the Artist’s 11 yr old son. This sculpture is set to be removed Nov. 26, 2017.

Let’s help our earth before all of this is gone:To get the best view of Venice, pay the money and stand in a looooooong line to climb the clock tower or…. Head to a quiet back street and climb the stairs of The Scala Bovolo, see an original Tintoretto water painting, and listen to an audioguide of the city for 9€… and best of all…no line!
